Went to KFN last night to see Australia’s Love of Diagrams and locals Party Photographers (my new favorite local band, BTW). Did not expect to be blown away by Beaches, but I certainly was. I know I make this comparison a lot, but I think it’s pretty apropos — they sound a hell of a lot like Loop. (I think Loop were severely underlooked; I’m a one-woman Loop Appreciation Society. You should pick up the reissues of their albums that came out in 2009.)
There wasn’t much of a crowd and no apparent restrictions, so I had the freedom to shoot away. Besides me there were two other guys documenting the event, so it wasn’t like we were on top of each other or battling for space. As with most concerts, I chose to shoot with available light at 1/20 @ ƒ2.8 for most of the images. (Sunday night never feels like the kind of night where you want to inundate the band with flash, you know?) One of the things I like about KFN is that they don’t bathe the stage in red lighting, making it relatively easy to color balance (or as close to one can get to color balancing at a concert).
Hope you like ‘em. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, as always.
