“Tell him what we said ‘bout ‘Paint It Black’”: Playlist for Friday’s Show
When I was a younger, more eager DJ, four hours would have been a piece of cake. But as an “old lady,” I think of it as two regular radio shows, back-to-back. One is mentally exhausting enough, but two at once? I’m really surprised I didn’t wreck my car on the drive back to Philadelphia. My brain was mush.
Aside from playing as much Alex Chilton (RIP) as possible, the overall theme for this week’s show was to pretend I was sitting in Rittenhouse Square, as I am wont to do when the weather is nice, and create a soundtrack for that. And play the Free Energy single, which just unexpectedly earwormed itself into my life the other day. Side 2 of Big Star’s Radio City is my favorite, so I felt I had to end on that (minus the last track).
Had a lot of fun doing this show, but did not enjoy having WPRB’s playlist software die not just once, but twice, over the course of the program.
Ran out of the station like a maniac, made it back to Philly in time to see Joanna Newsom blow my mind.
