Mondo Salvo #49
Mixer’s block is a real thing. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Of course, now it’s been so long since Mondo Salvo 48 that Lana Del Rey and Azealia Banks have both come from nowhere and become the toasts/roasts of the internet (in different ways). I’d have had both of these songs on any mix I made back in September, but in five years I’m not going to remember how long this one took to surface. The rest of Mondo Salvo 49 ping pongs between semi-old and quite new. Mostly I’m just glad to finally have something to share after all this time.

Santigold - Dougou Badia (3:54) — Le Kid - Human Behaviour (3:52) — Lana Del Rey - Video Games (4:43) — Benny Sings - Big Brown Eyes (4:12) — Ruby Goe - Get on It (3:20)* — Mozart Parties - Black Cloud (4:52) — Tennis - Origins (3:29) — The Late Great Fitzcarraldos - Hanging Upside Down (4:24)* — Mirel Wagner - No Death (3:08) — Chromatics - Kill for Love (3:58) — Linkoban - Like This (3:29)
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: Paul’s ongoing mix series is a special thing. I heard “Pumped Up Kicks” here first months (perhaps even a full year) before it was inescapable (and subsequently reviled). Crap, now that doesn’t sound like a glowing endorsement of this series, but it actually is. I guess what I’m trying to say is that Paul has a keen sense of pop and sometimes it is frighteningly next-level.
