Tamaryn, “The Waves” The Waves (2010, Mexican Summer)
I am so, so, so terribly late to the game on this record. 4AD female-fronted gauziness meets Stevie Nicks (just a touch!) for one wonderfully moody album. I know some people find Zola Jesus to be a bit too much, too overblown, and they might be the kind of people who enjoy the restraint that’s exercised here.
But seriously, back to the more important question: How the fuck did no one tell me about this album?
This record gets bonus points for its Portraits of the Past (!?) association.
