this show was quite possibly the most satisfying show i have ever done in my tenure as a WPRB dj, which is why it makes me sad. i hate it that my better shows are at the end of a programming season and that i spend the months prior fumbling at the board.

a much noiser show this week around, perhaps due to being overly excited about GBV karaoke. [more on that much much later] i even played a “rock block” of them!

personal favorite moment of the show: when playing iran, someone IM’ed me asking what i was doing to the station because it sounded like static.

thanks to my decision to travel on riverlink [as opposed to septa], i arrived at the station feeling really mellow. and thats how my set was, despite the rude complaints of others asking me to “pick it the fuck up.”

my my. what to say about that belle and sebastian ep, except that its real good. and if you know me, you know i dont like this band. im just impressed with the stylistic stretches they take from their usual brand of librarian shuffle-pop. and they too do the new trend [or so i see it]: play one really long song that sounds like 3-4 songs merged together.

towards the end of my show i was told that nj governor mcgreevey held a press conference to announce his resignation and declaration of being a “a gay american,” i thought it would be a good idea to grab some news off the internet and announce it.

im back from vacation but i havent gotten over my merge kick. played tracks from shark quest, the arcade fire [both are forthcoming], spoon & the 3D’s [both of these are out now].

also from north carolina: work clothes, sara reichtmann & margaret white, utah! and cold sides. check them out if you liked it.

started off my set with something from the forthcoming sea snakes record. its pretty amazing — moody music that incorporates strings and horns, the singer reminds me a bit of joe pernice. when it comes out, you must own this!!! also recommened: jim guthrie, who i played later in the show. he plays in royal city but this is his solo thing and he’s on tour NOW, being backed by the hidden cameras. more canadian love: the arcade fire. the 7″ is amazing and the forthcoming records [on merge, of course!] will blow you away. you’ve been warned.

overall, id say this was a nice return to the airwaves after my exhausting vacation. pretty strings-oriented by well, im really into them right now.
