Trapped In The Public Eye: This Weekend & Next

July 7th, 2008

Lower Manhattan, Jul 4 2008.

Hey folks, I have two public appearances in the coming weeks. I’m speaking on a panel this weekend about radio & webcasting, sponsored by the Philadelphia chapter of the National Recording Academy (a.k.a., the GRAMMYs). Second, I’ll be DJing a benefit for the East River Music Project the weekend after. Full details are behind the cut!

SAT 07-12: Independent’s Day Conference

At Drexel University’s Bossone Research Center (bet. 31st & 32nd on Market St.)
Conference runs 10AM - 8PM

The Philadelphia Chapter will host its second annual Independent’s Day Music Conference on July 12 at the Bossone Research Center on the Drexel University campus. Attendees and an impressive lineup of recording industry leaders will spend the day discussing and celebrating
independent musical success stories.

Panel topics will include radio, branding, digital distribution, finances, royalties, marketing, international business, Internet promotion, and much more.

Guests will also be treated to live music from some of Philadelphia’s best independent artists and will have an invaluable opportunity to network with top industry professionals and fellow members.

Admission is $15 for Recording Academy members and $25 for non-members. To RSVP, call 215.985.5411 or e-mail rsvp_philadelphia@grammy.com.

11:30 - 1:00
Panel 1 | RADIO “Adjust Your Dial - Radio & Today’s Market”
Moderator: Billy Zoom (XM/Satellite)

If you said “radio” fifteen years ago, you were talking about one of two things: AM or FM. But today’s music lovers can tune into everything from locally broadcast shows, to webcast stations, to satellite radio… many of which offer specialty and niche programming to fit every musical
taste. On this panel, experts from commercial, noncommercial, public and satellite radio will talk about how the medium is embracing change, and how musicians can tap into the new radio market.

1. Tiffany Bacon (Urban)
2. Amy Schriefer (Public)
3. Laiya St. Claire (Hip Hop and R&B)
4. Chris D’Amico (WMMR)
5. Maria Tessa Sciarrino (WPRB)

FRI 07-18: ERMP Benefit

At the Brecht Forum (451 West Street, bet. Bank & Bethune, Manhattan)

Along with yours truly, DJ’s Brian Turner (from WFMU) and Thanaton will be playing awesome music. I promise to entertain as well. I am also making this benefit my unofficial birthday party*. No gifts please, but I hope you’ll consider coming out to support this worthwhile organization.

* If you’re a NYC-area friend, come out to this. Philly people, there are plans afoot to celebrate.
