L’Amore In Città

» Laszlo. Antonioni. Bergman. What a heartbreaking week for the world of cinema. In a strange twist of events, the film history course I’m a TA for was studying the Seventh Seal.

» Equally sad as the loss of these great filmmakers is the untimely passing of Trevor Butler, bassist for local band Bottom of the Hudson. Find out how you can help his family cover funeral costs, as well as provide financial assistance with drummer Greg Lytle’s medical bills, click here.

» I was up rather late the other night and noticed that some of the battle scenes in 300 look like they’re plucked out of Alexander Nevsky.

Older, But Far From Wise

» Spent my birthday at McCarren Park watching the Oxford Collapse, who kindly gave me a birthday shout-out from the stage. Thank you guys! Also, big thanks are in order for Toby, who made sure my drunker-than-drunk ass got back home to NJ safe and sound by taking the subway back to Penn Station and seeing to it that I got on the train. Ladies, line up for this guy — he’s a keeper. More thanks to: Heather, Maura, Sara, Megan, Douglas, Dominic, Julia, Mike G, Danager, Alexis, Ned and all the fine folks who posted a birthday wish on my social networking accounts.

» I have a new post up on Mobile Beat. I don’t know how I made it through the show, especially after the very long day of post-birthday sobering up. Blitzen Trapper = way better than I expected.

MTS Billboarding GIF

I covered tonight’s Harry & the Potters show for Billboard. Read and comment, please! Otherwise, I will be one less step away from hanging out with celebrities on the red carpet. Think of it as your birthday gift to me — commenting/helping me win this thing, that is.

a thin line that divides the not-so-good from the not-so-bad

Not too exciting of a show, but yesterday I was busier in the studio than usual, thanks to BMI logging (this is how stations report what they play and help artists earn $$$). This means I have two playlists to simultaneously update, along with all the other things I’m required to do while being on-air. And then there’s the usual barrage of ticket giveaways, phone calls, etc. Also, I was feeling physically awful, so the sooner I could get off the air and back home, the better. In the process, I left my sweatshirt at the station.

But there’s a couple of nice places in this playlist, for example, the Nutley Brass into Sufjan’s “Chicago” — who knew they worked together so well? And I mixed 16 Bitch Pile-Up into Psychatrone & Cotton, since the first track was just too long. The Oxford Collapse/Big Dipper selection was coincidental, since they happened to wind up in the stack together, but once they were together there was no other option. (A not very good explanation of how I prepare for shows can be found here.)

Quick catch up:

» I guest-blogged for Idolator a couple weeks ago, and also, snapped a couple shots for them over the weekend.

» I went to Pitchfork’s festival on a VIP pass and complained about the burrito line. On the plus side, I got to eat salt pork, shop for shoes and share a train ride with Thurston Moore.

» I’m 75% certain that my landlord died while I was out in Chicago.

Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

I don’t like to talk about work on this blog (you know, the fear of getting dooced), but I wanted to pass along this message from my co-worker Elizabeth, who is participating in the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk. If you can donate to the cause, please do!

In October, my mom and I will be participating in a very special event called the Breast Cancer 3-Day. We’ll walk 60 miles over the course of three days — 20 miles a day — in memory of my mom’s sister who died 2 years ago after a 10 year battle with cancer. Thousands of men and women participate, we sleep in tents, and for the first time in my life I will wear a lot of pink. :]

My mom and I have agreed to jointly raise $4,400 in donations and we have already raised nearly $1,500! We still have a long way to go, however, and we’re running out of time (they don’t let you walk if you don’t raise enough funds… seems unfair, perhaps, but I suppose they really need to make sure that enough money gets where it’s needed).

The net proceeds will support breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment through Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.

I’m trying to do my part against breast cancer this year, and I hope my efforts are not only a true testament to how much I love my family, but also to the countless women in all of our lives who are battling cancer or who have already lost that fight.

Please help me honor all of their lives by offering your support — you can donate online by visiting my webpage:
