As many may recall, I wrote briefly for Rockpile. I might have differing opinions on their editorial directions of the writing I contributed, but whatever, that cat-and-mouse is writing for ya. Mike, Allan and Matt are fan-fucking-tastic people; should the Apocalypse ever come, I hope they’re on my side. And they did a helluva job turning a magazine that was the _Origivation_ of its day into a nice little glossy slice of indie rock heaven. So, it’s a little sad to hear they’re shutting down Rockpile due to financial difficulties. Anyway, here’s what they had to say:
ROCKPILE MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES CLOSING
After more than 12 years and #120 issues of of consistent, regular publication, Rockpile Magazine will be closing its doors.
To our readers, contributors, supporters and advertisers,
On Friday, July 28th, 2006, Rockpile Magazine will be closing its doors. Although we have weighed various options, it is almost certain that we will not be publishing another issue, including our scheduled August issue. We apologize for any inconvenience and disappointment, but recognize that we currently have no other choice.
Not surprisingly, financial shortcomings have forced this closure. And while it pains us to have to throw in the towel, we take immense consolation in our achievements of the past two years since going completely independent. In fact, few publications can boast a similar track record in terms of longevity, innovation, let alone creative and financial autonomy.
Every success in our editorial, art, circulation and marketing was realized only through the consistent support of many contributors, volunteers, advertisers, readers and artists. To everyone who read Rockpile, wrote, designed or photographed for us, to all the bands and artists who made time for an interview, and to every label and company that supported us with their advertising dollars, we’d like to offer a resounding and heart-felt “Thank you.”
Sincerely,
Allan Martin Kemler, Michael McKee, Matt McGlynn
