EMP 2006 Roundup

Monday, May 1st, 2006

» I am *never* flying again. You think I’m joking but I’m absolutely serious. Not only was my 6 hour non-stop flight to Seattle non-stop turbulence, my return flight to Philadelphia included an _emergency landing_ in Minneapolis. You know when you spend enough time in the ocean you can feel the waves long after swimming? As I drifted off to sleep yesterday afternoon, I still felt the shaking of the plane. Thinking about how close I was to potential danger is why I’m downright jittery today.

» On that note, why is one of the most gorgeous and friendliest cities I’ve visited so far away? And why do tourists from other countries visit the shithole that is the East coast? Seriously, they need to visit other parts of the country.

» Speaking of tourism, I totally visited the Space Needle. Afterwards, I napped on its manicured lawn.

» Golden Singha rules. Thank you for feeding me.

» Seattles Best Karaoke: the only reason you suck is because you totally scammed us! However, your book is awesome, so I’ll temporarily overlook that.

» I saw papers by the following folks: Peter Doyle, Drew Daniel, Josh Langhoff, Maura Johnston, Brian Goedde, Kandia Crazyhorse, Sara Jaffe, Sara Marcus, Kara Jesella/Marisa Meltzer and Daphne Carr. Brilliant, all of them. I missed a slew f of papers due to napping, Space Needling, record shopping, eating and finishing up the revisions on my own paper.

» I can’t believe how well-received my paper was, especially since it went up against Greil Marcus and ELO. Thanks to my friends who attended as well as the wonderful folks I met afterwards. I am still shocked by the support and kind words. Thank you — it means so much to me.
