OK, just where the fuck do i start with this? the us army’s sponsorship? bands who are anti-war? just the general idea that rock concerts, traditionally the bastion of anti-establishment culture, can now act as recruitment posts?
and on a weird tangent, today’s class consisted of shot-by-shot analysis of head, specifically its opening sequence. the film itself is a critique of american culture during the vietnam war and the bands beatles-approved attempt at career suicide.
ive got some more to say but for now, ill leave it at that. oh, and this: im so glad i decided not to attend siren this year.

i love ‘head.’ it’s one of my favorite movies.
i wonder if the village voice is going to write an apoplectic expose of itself. oh, but wait, it has to go rag on starbucks for 5000 words. fight the real enemy, you know.

head is amazing. the sequence after mickey jumps into the water is probably one of my favorite moments of filmmaking, period. oh, those colors!
ugh, the voice. i mean, really, WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING? turns out they added the sponsorship after many of the bands signed on.

I don’t know if you remember that student film of mine I showed you, but there was a sequence where I had my friend TJ dance with a top hat and cane to “Daddy’s Song” near the end. It’s one of his favorite movies ever and I figured a homage was due.
