hello? im sorry, i lost myself. i think i thought you were someone else.
May 3rd, 2005» ah, the end of the semester — i guess it’s crunch time for me too. here are some bands that ill be reviewing for rockpile in the coming month: oxford collapse, carousel waltz, the sames, navies, fruit bats, kinski, the teeth, currituck county, sally crewe and the sudden moves. i figure, if i review a record every three days, im good as gold. will this make me insane? you bet!
» plain parade is doing a spoon listening party on monday 5/9, 9-11pm at silk city. there will be free stuff to give away and drink specials. and oh, from 11pm onward, ill be djing. i’ve been itching to bust out my new 45 of gloria jones’ “tainted love”. i know its monday night but it would be super nice to see you, as i rarely spin out in clubs these days.
» word on the street is that SPIN magazine is writing a big story on philadelphia’s scene. and of course, its a nationally published magazine’s time-honored duty to misrepresent a town’s local music scene. do i sound jaded? well, of course. however, i am going to spend my 5$ to see if they’ve proven me wrong — ’cause i hope they do. however, a fluffy cheerleadery piece full of good vibes and blow jobs about philadelphia might be just what the doctor ordered.
here are the four bands they’ll cover, not just because they’re awesome [they really are!], but because they’re the only local bands who have publicists: man man, capitol years [plugged in this months issue], hail social, dr. dog. also likely to be covered: enon’s move to town, R5 productions, making time and hollertronix. other possible contenders: VIP, yah mos def, plastic little, pearls & brass, espers, audible, the teeth and trouble everyday.
» fodder for the rumor mill: relay has a record coming out on fat cat, hail social’s on polyvinyl. tonight i will put up a new TSOP thing.
