from a mailing list:
“The best story I have heard about Steve Albini is that when Jerry Garcia died, somebody set up a ‘consolation hotline’ for bereaved fans to call and send their sympathies, and it was actually Albini’s number.”
“Totally true. Someone went to a public vigil in Chicago right after Jerry Garcia died and handed out fliers with information on them, including a phone number where people could call to leave messages of condolence for the Garcia family. A fantastic prank.”
whats the best prank you’ve pulled?
yes. my radio show will be returning this summer. what exciting things will happen this time around? what awesome music shall you hear? you’ll only know if you tune in.
Thursdays 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. EST on 103.3 FM
even though the station now uses playlist software to archive our shows, im still going to post playlists here.
i havent had one damn moment to myself in the last week. i think im going to scream.
edith frost’s demos available for free download. good luck on grabbing them, im having a bit of trouble.
one of the many things i love about my job is that i can listen to anything i want in the office, within reason. most of the time, i put on KEXP — its a lot like WPRB minus all the arty, noisy crap most DJs [such as myself! ha!] are prone to — its totally middle of the road indie rock. yes, thats boring.
but sometimes though there’s suprises, like this afternoon. they played some old indie rock, like superchunk’s “the first part” and archers of loaf’s “fabricoh”. i havent heard the forthcoming sonic youth yet, but they previewed a track “pattern recognition” and i think it might be the best kim gordon-penned tune in a long time.
hey! they are playing fivehead now! this is awesome. i love this band.
think philly is a great town for dating? or not? dont care?
as my friend pointed out earlier, “…Maria was sponsored by City Paper in some sort of ’sassy eligible singles’ feature a couple years ago. A shout out by a weekly, and she’s still having crappy dating luck! I think that says something about Philly.”
i couldnt agree more. im not going to get too specific about it, but whether i’ve dated someone “in the scene” or “not,” ive had the most disappointing experiences.
i might be stating the obvious in telling you i voted “thumbs down.”
get crafty is gone. what a wonderful, useful, inspiring site it was.
thanks to the alumni book fair at work over the weekend, i managed to pick up word freak by stefan fatsis, buzz bissinger’s friday night lights (soon to be a movie!) and the big love by sarah dunn; all on the ridiculously cheap.
i also saw rock lotto alumni recess! recess! at the millcreek and enon at the khyber. ever feel like your own tiredness limits your capacity for enjoyment? best description for my saturday night.
i made up for my lack of sleep on sunday. i think i passed out around 4pm and woke up at 9. dreamt about sleeping while driving and was subsequently pulled over by a cop. got a ticket. apparently i had been speeding at 112mph. despite being unconscious, i managed to safely pull the car into a rest area.
make of this as you wish.
