a sense of where we are
April 9th, 2004i know what you’re thinking, why are there no insightful posts from maria? truth of the matter is i’ve been working on a really long piece for you to read, a kinda sorta record review / analysis thats along the lines of the stuff i wrote in college for various critical theory courses; ive been super-swamped with work/family/friend obligations right now. this is good.
but because im in a good mood, here are some things to share.
im really loving the new trouble everyday record, Days vs. Nights. its a one-two punch of angular punk rock that any fan of franz ferdinand would love. i cant believe these guys are from philly — they’re just so damn good. this band is going to go places.
i attended their record listening party wednesday at SOMA. let me tell you this: beware the beverage called “vitamin water & vodka”. it will mess you up. the vitamin water masks the taste of all that alcohol and you feel great. then suddenly you dont, but also realize you’ve downed nine of them in quick succession.
allen merry isnt giving up his fight. i cant believe OUR tax dollars being used on a system that has very few regulations when it comes to dealing with troublesome [and potentially dangerous!] library patrons.
i did a show with metal urbain last night. any punk band that incorporates electronics/synthesizers in their music is permanently in debt to this band. and i cant believe i booked them. sometimes, i forget i do these cool things. anyway, it was perfect: small, packed and energetic. i got to see many of my friends from the radio station, which is rare since our schedules dont match up very often.
im playing next friday night at the millcreek. will you be there?

i get such awful hangovers from vitamin water, even when i drink it straight. what do they put in that stuff that makes it so … vitamin-y?

i wish i knew what they put in it. anyway, vitamin water is just gatorade repackaged for the twentysomething set.
thats my theory and im sticking to it.
