can you say “whore” in a weekly newspaper?

this is one of the 3 projects ive been tearing out my hair over. big thanks to kevin and jannon for helping me out with the copy when my lil’ old brain stopped working on me.

ive secured the biggest sponsor, and there’s a chance i might get a couple more. we’ll see. i want to see how successful this turns out and then for the next one [if if if], reach out to more organizations.

clear the decks!

oy. there is so much going on in my little world these days.

for those who dont know, ive taken on the responsibility of booking doc watsons two nights a week. if you’re interested in a show on thursday or friday nights, please drop me and my partner a line. the email address is booking@plainparade.org

rock lotto is my other crazy project, but you know about that already. less than a month to go until the drawing and im nervous this will not work.

today i was interviewed for clear the decks, an article in the philadelphia weekly about local DJs. why they picked me, i have absolutely no idea. i’ve never considered myself a very good DJ. in retrospect, my responses to the questions are lame, except for this gem:

I had absolutely no intention of ever being a DJ, but it’s so difficult finding people to play music with. When I discovered playing other people’s music through a glorified stereo system, it was hard to resist the instant fame and celebrity I was guaranteed.

its so true. the lamest part about me being a DJ is because all my friends were doing it. it was much easier to get my friends together and spin records for them than it was to have them come out to my shows.

i dont expect this article to accomplish the impossible - bringing people out to my nights - because its not the lack of promotion that does me in, its the mere fact that im a horrible DJ. actually, maybe thats not true. because of the radio experience, ive grown accustomed to spinning to an empty space, theoretically. [people are out there listening, i think, but i just cant see them]

in fact, its the human presence which unnerves me when DJing.

anyway, let’s see what happens when it actually gets released.

clear the decks, yo!
